Ozonation Shut Down and Significant Cost Saved
   
   

Background

There are one indoor pool and one outdoor in a university. Pool water was disinfected by ozone and chlorine in the past. The use of ozone not only offers high disinfection power but also good quality to the pool water due to low concentration of chlorine can be used.

However the drawback of using ozonation is high operation and maintenance cost. The system includes ozone generator, reaction tank and carbon filter which require regular maintenance. The heat generated by ozonator requires cooling to prevent over heated. And the power consumption of ozonator is not less.

Moreover the ozone element was out of stock in several occasion which required setting higher concentration of chlorine to maintain the disinfection power. But the chlorine-like smell was then significant.

The high O&M cost and high down time of the ozonation system concerned the facility management. In an occasion, it was known that AquaKLEAR can improve the situation. And finally it was decided to install AquaKLEAR and shut down the ozonation system at the same time.

 

Result

There is no chlorine-like smell reported by user since the use of AquaKLEAR and the water quality is maintained as good as when ozone was used.

The water saving is also significant due to the flocculation effect produced which extends the time interval and reduces the time duration required for backwashing of sand filter.
